BRAND DESCRIPTION

JULIUS TART OPTICAL is a brand that was newly established with Mr. Julius Tart's nephew Richard Tart as a successor to the will of Mr. Julius Tart, the founder of Tart Optical Enterprise, which was founded in the early1950s.
Mr. Richard has a track record of being involved in Tart Optical's factory and marketing, holds a large number of documents, and is the only person who will succeed Julius.

HISTORY

JULIUS TART OPTICAL, which will start in 2016, retains the texture of the good old days of New York from the 1950s to the early 1970s, while being inspired by art, culture, and the progressive design of New York. We are also planning to develop a collection that reproduces, restore a number of masterpiece frames, and develop a collection that newly adds design products.

 

FEATURE

In 2016, Tommy O’ Gara of The Light Co. partnered with Julius Tart’s nephew Richard Tart and recreated the iconic frames using inherited archival material as design reference to bring back the Julius Tart Optical brand back to life. Today, the frames are made in Japan with premium cellulose based acetate and still uses functional barrel hinge construction which makes these frames hard wearing.
